The exterior of the 2020 Lexus RX is designed for room
The RX 350 and RX 450, when compared to the entire XC60 lineup, are 201 mm greater in length and have a 50 mm increase in height. The extended RX 350 L and 450h L are 312 mm longer and 61 mm higher. These dimensions provide clear advantages in the RX’s cabins that we’ll discuss later.
The 2020 Lexus RX has sensible power and greater hybrid efficiency
The RX series offers two advanced engines. A 3.5L six-cylinder petrol engine produces 295 hp in the RX 350 and 290 hp on the RX 350 L. The hybrid Lexus RX 350h and RX 450h feature a gas/electric 3.5L six-cylinder engine that generates 308 hp.
The XC60 AWD T5-equipped models receive a 2.0L four-cylinder that develops 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, which is considerably less powerful than the RX’s gasoline engine. The AWD T6-equipped models generate 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This offers more power than the RX’s gasoline engine, but it does so at a much higher and more expensive trim level.
The XC60 offers the hybrid T8 Twin Engine does have a slight power advantage over the RX hybrids. But it comes at a great price in fuel savings and cost. The fuel consumption rating of the Lexus RX 350h is 7.5/8.4 L/100 km (city/highway). The much less efficient XC60e hybrid makes an enormous tradeoff for power and only achieves a rating of 9.5/8.7 L/100 km. The RX hybrids make green driving much more accessible.
When carrying a full load of front and middle row passengers, the RX 350 L and RX 450 L have 180 more litres of volume behind the middle row than the XC60. The RX 350 and RX 450 also have more volume in this configuration. All RX trims also have more front head room and rear shoulder room, and the RX L models include more leg room.
